Rey de Reyes

Today was my first trip to church in Buenos Aires. Man, do these people know how to have church–for 3 1/2 hours! I really, really had a nice time today. Paul was right…going to a Spanish church is one of the best ways to improve your language skills. It´s cool to figure out words in the songs and the sermon simply by their context.

I showed up exactly at 10 and there were not many people there. By 10:30, there must have been over 500–welcome to Latin America. I sat toward the front, but whenever there was a chance to look around, it was exhilirating to see almost every single person in the building worshiping God with everything they had. We sang for an hour and every minute of it was great! I love singing in Spanish! Some of the songs seemed original and some were translations of familiar English songs. The rest of the service was a mix of speaking, praying, and a few more songs. Throughout the entire service, the presence of the Holy Spirit was evident. These people have a passion, respect for God, and a desire for the Holy Spirit that is admirable. And it´s not just a few people–it´s nearly the entire congregation!

After the service, I asked about groups for people my age and found out there is a group for 18-35 year olds. They meet every Friday night at 21:30–again, welcome to BA and late nights. I hope this will be a great way to meet people. I was able to hold a conversation with some people after the service and obtain this information. They told me I spoke well for having only lived here 8 days–very encouraging!
