Long Time Eating
We went out to eat for Christina´s birthday on Friday. The night began at 21:00 with 8 people and commenced at 3:00 with over 20 people. Over 6 hours at the restaurant! It seemed like we talked about everything during that time. We started out in Spanish, but that broke down later.
It was just your everyday conversation. Weather, sports, illegal immigration throughout the world, whether people can actually know what is right or wrong, Natural Law, Jesus as an anarchist. Some pretty heavy mental lifting. It was an excellent time for me to share what I believed without any shame or inhibition whatsoever. I was also able to hear the opinion of an admittedly godless American. When two people start from two nearly polar opposite world views, it´s amazing that any discussion is even possible! He respected my point of view and we had an excellent dialogue. I couldn´t help leaving the restaurant feeling somewhat frustrated at the limits of my knowledge, experience, and intellect. At the same time, I felt proud for having shared with all the boldness I had. On the walk home, Jackie & Coral told me I had done very well and that I had the attention of everyone around me. I did my absolute best and that´s all I can ask of myself. The rest is up to God and the individual.
