Teatro Colon

Last night we went to the world famous Teatro Colon. This was the final performance before it closes for 2 years for remodeling. The concert featured the apparently world famous Argentine singer Mercedes Rosa. She has a very nice voice, but it was obvious she´s on the way out. Not only is she getting very old, but she has to weigh 400-500 lbs. and has a difficult time moving. Anyway, the theater was absolutely stunning. We sat in the cheap seats and it felt like I might plummet to my demise any time during the performance. It was nothing like stadium seating where there is a gradual slope. The Colon reminded me a lot of the Met in New York City. I´m thankful I was able to experience the theater before it was too late.

I´m going dark for a few days. We´ll be in Puerto Madryn visiting the penguins & whales. I´ll post pictures when we return on Monday.

How fitting — they couldn’t close the theater until you had a chance to attend. It really is true — “it ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings.”

I couldn’t understand anything she was singing, but it was a great experience. I just wish they had more room for people my size! Such is life among the small people of South America.

yeah…i bet the seats were small…I remember NYC theatre seating being cramped…but imagine a culture of “Raul’s”. Yep. Sorry Kyle.
