Free Subway Rides

Last night I walked into the subway station and just kept right on walking. No turnstiles to walk through or tickets to buy. I wasn’t sure what was going on at the time. Today I read that the drama between the subway employees and the administration is still going on. This week, rather than striking and shutting down the lines like last week, they’re sticking it to The Man in a different way. Between 7-10 a.m. and 5-8 p.m. the employees are opening the gates and letting passengers through free of charge at 10 of the busiest stations in the city. Maybe I shouldn’t be laughing but this strikes me as comical for some reason. It’s probably the frustration with the lack of law and order at times in South America. What else can you do sometimes?
