Days 2 & 3 in US
Trekking in South America developed what I think will be a lifelong love for the sport. Considering I learned about and purchased everything while in South America, I think I did very well for my first time. At times though, I was jealous of everyone in the US as I saw the quality and variety of good available here. So it was with wide eyes and glee that Dad and I went to REI yesterday. We ended up spending 3 hours looking around and learning about the endless goods available in the outdoor industry. It felt like such a luxury to see everything under one roof. Not only that, the quality of what one can buy here is usually superior and may even cost less. That our economy can support such a specialized store and that it can thrive is truly a testament to the wealth and opportunity available to us.
Having a family with whom I not only get along, but look forward to seeing may seem commonplace to many. But it’s not and I really feel fortunate to share this time with these special people. Whether it’s been spending time with my Mom at lunch today, Dad at the store yesterday, my extended family at dinner, or just hanging out with Paul watching “Man vs. Wild“, my family re-energizes me. There is nothing more important than family. (The Italian part of Argentina must be wearing off on me).
