Photographing Kids in Abasto
After leaving the Bodies exhibition, I had about an hour and a half to walk before meeting up with Maria downtown. Not having any specific shooting objective, I decided to scour the streets of the Abasto neighborhood for photo opportunities. After walking a mere block, I came upon Carlos Gardel Avenue, which bears the name of the most famous tango singer of all time. This was not a street I would have visited at night, especially with a digital camera. But I felt comfortable enough given it was 1:30 in the afternoon. The kids watched me with intrigue and trepidation, but as soon as I asked if I could take their picture, I instantly had a neighborhood full of friends. It was one of those times I loved being in Buenos Aires.
