Volunteer & Job Response

Well, after several failed attempts in May, it seems there is an organization in Buenos Aires that not only wants, but responds to volunteers. On Thursday, someone actually replied to my email! Carla from Uniendo Caminos (Uniting Paths) was glad to receive my inquiry and more than happy to set up a time to see their organization. We are planning to meet Monday morning to talk about what they do and meet some of the people involved. She mentioned there were people from the United States, France, Germany, and Norway volunteering as well, so it could also be a great way to make native and foreign friends. Maria gasped a bit when I told her it was in Villa 21, so we’ll see what it’s like.

I also received an email about teaching English at Small World Language Services in the nearby neighborhood of Belgrano. It looks like the pay is lousy, but since I can offer the two items they consider advantages–Spanish fluency and Saturday availability–maybe something better could be arranged. We’ll at least do the interview and go from there.
